Cooking for Blockheads

Synopsis

Cooking for Blockheads is a mod that adds lots of kitchen appliances that make your life easier when it comes to making foods!

Overview

Cooking for Blockheads is unique in that it actually facilitates the creation of a “kitchen.” The cooking blocks that are added in this mod are not entirely for show; in order for you to cook certain recipes you must actually construct a connected kitchen which includes a Cooking Table, an Oven, a Sink, and many different kinds of storage units (Fridges, Cabinets, etc). In order for an appliance to be connected to the kitchen, it must be adjacent to another block in the kitchen. Alternatively, anything that is on Kitchen Floor blocks which form a pathway to the kitchen will be considered part of the kitchen as well.

The Cooking Table is the most important part of your kitchen. Right clicking on a Cooking Table will bring up a GUI which will tell you everything you can make with the food you have in your inventory and in inventories in your kitchen (more on that later). There is also a search bar and various sorting options to help you find the perfect meal. When you click on a food once, its recipe will be shown on the left side of the GUI. If you click on a food a second time, you will start to make it. Some food can be made instantly, while others have a cooking time. Some foods not only require ingredients, but also require certain kitchen appliances. For example, some foods need an oven so they can be baked. The Cooking Table can be dyed by right clicking on it with any dye.

The Oven is a block which can be used to cook food very quickly. Right click on the Oven to open its GUI. Place food you want to cook into the top 3 slots of the oven. It will automatically be moved into the 9 central slots as it cooks. Cooked food will then be moved to the 3 slots on the right. You can shift right click the front of the Oven to open the door and put food into it without opening the GUI. Shift right click again to close the door. Connecting an Oven to your kitchen unlocks recipes which require smelting. The oven requires fuel to run. Place fuel (coal for example) in the left-most slot to heat up the Oven.

The Fridge is a block that you can use to store ingredients. Any ingredients stored in a Fridge that is part of your kitchen will be visible to the Cooking Table and can be used to make food. Like the oven, you can shift right click the front to open the door and put food into the Fridge without opening the GUI. You can dye the Fridge.

The Sink is a block that you can use to add water to your recipes. You have to pump water into your Sink for it to work. The simplest way is to run a Cyclic Fluid Extraction Cable into the back of the Sink from an infinite water source (two water sources one block apart). Once you have water in your sink, water that is required for recipes will be supplied as long as the Sink is connected to your kitchen. In addition, you can right click on the sink with an empty bucket to fill it with water or right click on the sink with dyed armor to wash it off. You can dye the Sink.

Right click on the Tool Rack with an item in your hand to put the item onto the tool rack. Right click tools on the Tool Rack to take them. Tools on a Tool Rack that is in your kitchen are available to be used in Recipes.

A block that under normal conditions would turn bread into toast. In Sky Factory 4, there are no compatible bread types, rendering the Toaster completely useless. It is a purely aesthetic block in this pack.

The Milk Jar is a jar that can hold up to 8 buckets of milk. Milk Jars in your kitchen will supply milk to any recipes that require it. Right click with a bucket of milk to put milk into the Milk Jar. You can also right click with an empty bucket to take milk out of the jar.

The Cow in a Jar is an ethical nightmare that can be used to supply infinite milk to your kitchen… if you don’t think about it too much. To create the Cow in a Jar, you have to drop an anvil on a cow who is standing on top of a Milk Jar. This is made very easy by the mod Carry On. Shift right click the cow with an empty hand to pick it up and right click the top of the jar to place the cow on top. You probably want to restrain him somehow. Then drop an anvil on him. I’m sure it doesn’t hurt.

The Cow in a Jar will then slowly fill up its jar with milk. If the Cow in a Jar is connected to your kitchen, it will supply milk to any recipes that require it. You can also add or take milk from the jar using buckets as described above in the Milk Jar section.

The Spice Rack is another storage option that can hold up to 9 ingredients. Right click on the Spice Rack to open its GUI, which is essentially a row of 9 slots which can hold items. Any items you place in a Spice Rack which is part of your kitchen can be used to cook recipes in your Cooking Table.

The Kitchen Counter:

The Kitchen Counter is very similar to the Fridge. It is a storage block which can be used to store ingredients for use in recipes, given that the Kitchen Counter is connected to your kitchen. Right click to open the Kitchen Counter’s GUI and place food inside. Like the Oven and Fridge, you can alternatively shift right click the front of the cabinet to open the door and put items into the cabinet without opening the GUI. You can dye the Kitchen Counter.

The Kitchen Cabinet:

The Kitchen Corner:

A block that’s only purpose is to provide you with a block that doesn’t look stupid

when it is in the corner of your kitchen. Thank you Cooking for Blockheads. You really have thought of everything. The Kitchen Corner can be dyed.

The Kitchen Floor can be used to connect non adjacent blocks to your kitchen. Any blocks that are on the “same” (meaning connected in some way) kitchen floor are a part of the kitchen, even if they aren’t adjacent. Also doesn’t look half bad as a floor. The documentation for this mod says that these blocks can be dyed but the recipes they provide did not work when I tested them. They also aren’t in the JEI.

Another method of storage for your ingredients. Right click on the Fruit Basket to open its GUI and place items into it. Any items placed in the Fruit Basket will be visible in the basket in organized rows. Items in the Fruit Basket will also be available to be used for making recipes given that the Fruit Basket is a part of your kitchen.

Cooking for Blockheads #NoFilterEdition:

A book that you can use to see all of the recipes in Sky Factory 4. Right click with the book in hand to open a GUI that looks just like the GUI for the Cooking Table. Of course, you can’t craft any recipes using the book.

Shift right click on a Cooking Table with this book to change the Cooking Table so that it also will show every recipe in Sky Factory 4, even the ones you cannot make with the ingredients you have. Shift right click again with an empty hand to remove the book.

Cooking for Blockheads I:

Cooking for Blockheads I is a book that will tell you all of the recipes you can make with the ingredients in your inventory. You cannot make them using this book however. Right click with the book in hand to open it up and see its GUI which looks and functions just like the Cooking Table GUI.

Cooking for Blockheads II:

Cooking for Blockheads II is exactly the same as Cooking for Blockheads I except you can craft using only the book. This book is essentially a hand held Cooking Table. Unfortunately, you only have your inventory space as storage.

An upgrade for the Oven. Right click on an Oven with the Heating Unit in hand to allow your oven to be powered using energy. When upgraded, the Oven will have a red glowing light on the front of it.

An upgrade for the Fridge. Right click on a Fridge with the Ice Unit in hand. Your

Fridge will now supply snow and ice to any recipes that require it given that the Fridge is connected to your kitchen. When upgraded, the Fridge will have a bluish box on its front.

The Preservation Chamber:

An upgrade for the Fridge. Right click on a Fridge with the Preservation Chamber in hand. Fridges with this upgrade will prevent the last item of a slot from being used up. This actually decreases the total amount of space that you have in a Fridge, but it has the benefit of giving you control over what ingredients you have in your Fridge and what slots they are in. It is basically an organization upgrade. When upgraded, the Fridge will have an attachment added to the top left of the inside of the Fridge (open the door with shift right click to see).

The Oven is a block added by Cooking for Blockheads. It allows smelting recipes to be used in a multiblock kitchen and is also able to smelt food items in bulk.

Usage

The Oven burns fuel items to cook food items, and can cook up to 9 of an item at a time using the same amount of burn time/fuel as it would to cook only 1 in the Oven. This makes it faster at cooking food items than a Smoker even though the Oven’s cooking time is the same as that of a Furnace, as long as food items are being cooked in bulk (three or more). However, the Oven uses up fuel at a 3x faster rate by default. The fuel rate and the cooking time can both be changed in the mod’s config file.

If an Oven is connected to a multiblock kitchen, recipes requiring smelting can be done with a Cooking Table in the multiblock kitchen.

Cooking tools can be placed on the Oven by right-clicking the top face with the tool in hand or by placing it into the oven’s UI on the left. These tools will be accessible by any multiblock kitchen connected to the Oven.

If the Oven has the Heating Unit upgrade, it will gain an internal RF storage of 10,000 RF. With this upgrade, if there is food to cook but there is no fuel left to burn, it will begin consuming RF at roughly 1 RF/tick.

Sneak-right-clicking on the door of the Oven will leave it open. Food can be placed directly into the Oven this way, as an alternative to using the Oven’s UI.

Through the mod’s config file, automation of the Oven can be disabled (disallowing other blocks from automatically inserting/extracting from the Oven). It can also be configured to only use Cooking Oil (Pam’s HarvestCraft) as fuel.
