Nautilus

8.0.4 UPDATE

Note: Make sure to name your nautlius with a nametag. They will despawn otherwise.

Nautilus (‘nawt-i-luhs’, meaning «Sailor») is an aquatic prehistoric creature that was included in the original Fossils and Archeology mod. It is a living fossil about one block long that spawns naturally in the world but can also be created by the player. The only other naturally spawning creatures are the coelacanth, sturgeon, and alligator gar. Upon death, they can drop empty shells and magic conches. Right-clicking a nautilus puts it into your inventory as an item.

Though they spawn naturally, they can also be created by the player through the culture vat. As they are marine cephalopods, they hatch from spawn that need to be placed in water by the player.

You can cook live nautilus in a furnace to whip up Sio-Chiu-Le, a Taiwanese snack.

BEHAVIOR

The nautilus is an aquatic mob that spawns naturally in the world. They spawn in shallow waters most often and rarely in deep waters. They will occasionally drop nautilus spawn which can be used to birth more nautilus’. Since they do not have sexes, the amount of nearby nautilus’ do not affect the breeding probability. Their predators are mosasaurus, liopleurodon, spinosaurus, and sarcosuchus. When a predator or the player gets within 3 blocks of the nautilus, it will stop moving and attempt to hide in its shell and it will be invulnerable from all outside threats while doing so. They will return to their normal state when the predator leaves the area. The player can force the nautilus out of its shell by right-clicking it with a flint. They can only live in water, and when placed on land they will suffocate and die at a rate of half a heart a second.

Like the other living fossil mobs, they cannot be tamed, ordered, fed, or aged, given essence of chicken don’t have moods or genders, and no interact with the toy. They also do not make sounds.

Citipati

8.0.4 UPDATE

Citipati (sih-tee-pat-tee, meaning «Funeral Pyre Lord») is a medium-sized omnivorous prehistoric animal that lived in the Mongolian deserts of the Late Cretaceous period, and was the 50th prehistoric creature added to the mod. It grows to just under 1.5 blocks tall at the hips, and 3 blocks long in 9 Minecraft days. There is no size difference between Citipati genders, but the males have black and white markings on their heads and necks. Baby Citipati are less than a block long. Citipati can be fed essence of chicken to grow faster, at the cost of hunger.

A fossil version of the Citipati can be created by right-clicking a bio-fossil on the ground, which will create a random skeleton of a prehistoric creature with a small chance of it being a Citipati.

Citipati, like almost all other mobs, has a mood that can drop or be raised through various means. Having a low mood means it will attack you, having a high mood will make it neutral. Right-click it with a Dinopedia to see its current mood.

Like most other mobs in the mod, they do not spawn naturally in the world and must be created by the player through the culture vat. As they are dinosaurs, they hatch from large eggs that need to be warmed by torches or any other light source.

BEHAVIOR

The Citipati is an omnivore, and will hunt all vanilla animals, as well as many smaller prehistoric creatures in the mod such as Compsognathus. At a normal or high mood, Citipati will not attack larger mobs unless provoked. If their mood drops too low, though, they will become hostile to the player. When attacking, Citipati will violently peck their opponent. Citipati will browse the ground looking for plants, like flowers, when they are hungry, as well as hunting for prey. Citipati are also diurnal, meaning they are active during the day and sleep at night.

Citipati will play with scratching posts, tethered logs and toy balls, which raise their mood significantly.

Adult Citipati can breed and lay eggs every five minutes if there is a male and female present. The breeding probability is handled by how many individuals are nearby.

Citipati are prey to most carnivores, including, but not limited to Ceratosaurus, Dilophosaurus, Megalodon, Sarcosuchus, Tyrannosaurus, and Velociraptor. Baby Citipati will be attacked by an even larger range of mobs. Citipati will not hesitate to defend themselves, which means they will sometimes defeat their attacker (depending on the predator).

TAMING

Citipati, like most prehistoric creatures, is tamed when the player is within a 6-block radius of the egg hatching. If the player misses this opportunity, it can be tamed with a whip or by feeding them. Citipati cannot be ridden. They are controlled with a stick.

FEEDING

Citipati automatically eat plants off the ground and hunt for prey when they are hungry. They will also eat from a feeder with plants or meat in it if they can see one, with a preference for meat. Citipati can be hand-fed apples, wheat, bread, sugarcane, sugar, cakes, cookies, melons, carrots, potatoes, baked potatoes, pie, beets, chorusfruit, seeds of all kinds, ferns, meats, and eggs.

Allosaurus

8.0.4 UPDATE

Allosaurus (‘Al-owe-sore-uss, or æl·ə·sor·əs in IPA notation’, meaning «Strange/Different Lizard») is a large prehistoric creature from the Jurassic Period that was added into the Fossils & Archeology mod in the 6.4 Build. They are diurnal, meaning they are active only during the day, and are apex predators, meaning they use a special taming method. They can grow to be approximately just under 2.5 blocks tall at the hips, 7 blocks long, and 2 blocks wide. Males have darker facial markings. Newborns are tan and spotted, 0.1 blocks tall, and are fully grown after 10 Minecraft days. They, like the other large carnivores, cannot be given essence of chicken to grow faster.

Allosaurus, like almost all other mobs, has a mood that can drop or be raised through various means. Having a low mood means it may attack or avoid you, having a high mood will make it neutral. The Allosaurus requires a high mood to not attack the player on sight. Right-click it with a Dinopedia to see its current mood.

A fossil version of the Allosaurus can be created by right-clicking a bio-fossil on the ground, which will create a random skeleton of a prehistoric creature with a small chance of it being an Allosaurus.

Like almost all other mobs in the mod, they do not spawn naturally in the world and must be created by the player through the culture vat. As they are dinosaurs, they hatch from large eggs that need to be warmed by any light source.

Baby Allosaurus are vulnerable when left alone to most other carnivores, but the only mobs that will hunt the adults are the Tyrannosaurus, Sarcosuchus, and Spinosaurus. It is recommended to test which mobs are compatible to be placed with Allosaurus in creative mode before placing them together on survival mode.

Allosaurus will interact with scratching posts, tethered logs, and will chase toy balls, bringing up their mood significantly. They are diurnal, meaning they are active during the day and will sleep at night.

Adult Allosaurus can breed and lay eggs every five minutes as if there is a male and female present. The breeding probability is handled by how many individuals are nearby.

An Allosaurus being tamed.

RIDING

Tamed Allosaurus are rideable as adults. They can be ridden by right-clicking on one with a whip. When ridden, they won’t go hungry or age, and they cannot break blocks. It can be controlled only if the player constantly holds the whip, and can only be controlled for a short time without it. Riding uses the same controls as a Horse.

FEEDING

Allosaurus is self-sufficient and will hunt prey on its own, or use nearby feeders with meat in them. They will also eat dropped food or, when tamed, can be hand-fed any kind of meat (excluding rotten flesh). They will seek out all of the aforementioned mobs.

Mosasaurus

Water Attack: One Hit Kill

8.0.4 UPDATE

Mosasaurus (‘moe-za-sawr-us,’ meaning «Lizard of the Meuse River») is a huge carnivorous prehistoric marine reptile that was included in the original Fossils & Archeology mod. They are diurnal (meaning active throughout the day and will sleep at night, though they only seem to be able to sleep while on land), the only mosasaurids in the mod, and are currently the largest marine animals in the game. They are approximately 12 blocks long and 1.7 blocks tall, and there is no size difference between males and females, but males do have a much darker blue texture whilst females have a more greenish color. Newborns are two blocks long, have the same model as an adult, and are fully grown in 11 minecraft days. They, like the other apex predators, cannot be given essence of chicken to age rapidly.

Mosasaurus, like almost all other mobs, has a mood that can drop or be raised through various means. Having a low mood means it may attack or avoid you, having a high mood will make it neutral. Mosasaurus requires a high mood to not attack the player on sight. Right-click it with a DinoPedia to see what its mood is at.

A fossil version of the mosasaurus can be created by right-clicking a bio-fossil on the ground, which will create a random skeleton of a Mesozoic-era prehistoric creature with a small chance of it being a mosasaurus.

Like almost all other mobs in the mod, they do not spawn naturally in the world and must be created by the player through the culture vat. As they are aquatic reptiles, they hatch instantly from egg sacs that need to be placed in water.

BEHAVIOR

Mosasaurus are extremely aggressive purely aquatic reptiles that can only live in water. Even when first born, they are hostile to the player, and cannot be tamed until adulthood (see below). Mosasaurus cannot move at all on land, but will not suffocate if left there, as they breathe air. They require a water tank of at least twenty blocks across and three blocks deep to swim properly, but keep in mind, they can break blocks weaker than iron (except for reinforced glass and dense sand). Their block breaking ability can often make them stuck, as the water may flow into the hole and trap the mosasaurus in the current. They can be very fast when in water.

They have a special attack when they grab the player or another animal, and shake the prey around in its mouth, dealing constant damage until the victim is dead. They are able to kill almost all mobs in a single hit. When they do hunt, they will attack the aquatic alligator gar, coelacanth, henodus, ichthyosaurus, liopleurodon, nautilus, plesiosaurus, and sarcosuchus, sturgeon, as well as squid. They are also capable of attacking terrestrial animals that enter its waters, including all vanilla animals, hostile mobs such as zombies, the allosaurus, ankylosaurus, ceratosaurus, deinonychus, gallimimus, mammoth, tyrannosaurus, and many more. The only creature capable of killing an adult mosasaurus is the spinosaurus, due to its one hit kill attack.

Adult mosasaurs can breed and lay egg sacs every five minutes if there is a male and female present. These egg sacs need to be picked up by the player and right-clicked on water to hatch. The breeding probability is handled by how many individuals are nearby.

A beaten mosasaurus, in front of an aquatic scarab gem.

The mosasaurus is one of the eight apex predators that use the special taming method. In order to tame a mosasaurus, the player must wait until it is fully grown (11 minecraft days), and bring it down to 8hp (4 full hearts, check the DinoPedia for its health to make sure you don’t kill it), where it will then enter a sleep like state. It is recommended to use a potion of water-breathing to prevent drowning. Upon defeating the predator, the player must then right click the mosasaurus with an aquatic scarab gem, which will make it tamed to the player and bring it back up to full health. They can be ordered to either wander, stay, or follow the player with skull sticks, though the stay command does not appear to work.

RIDING

Adult mosasaurus are rideable upon being tamed. They can be ridden by right-clicking it with a whip, which will allow you to mount its back. When ridden, they won’t become hungry, won’t age, and will not sleep. They are extremely fast and agile when in water, but are very slow when on land or on the ocean floor. They also do not seem to be able to break blocks when being ridden, which can make the mosasaurus become stuck. It can be controlled only if the player constantly holds the whip, and can only be controlled for a short time without it. Riding uses the same WASD format as normal Minecraft movement, and shift to get off. When in water, look up and down to go in that direction.

FEEDING

Mosasaurus are self-sufficient independent carnivores who will hunt out and eat the aforementioned mobs. The best live-food candidate is the prehistoric fish, as they spawn naturally. They can be hand-fed any type of vanilla or mod meat (except for rotten flesh), all kinds of fish (including fish spawn), and Sio-Chiu-Le. They cannot eat from feeders with meat in them.

Time Machine and several other Archaeological objects.

The Time Machine is a currently unusable block that is planned to be used to travel to a new dimension. It is the most expensive thing in the mod, as it requires three of the extremely rare Scarab Gems and a Nether Star which can only be obtained through killing the wither.

Contents

Appearance

The Time-Machine is a short gold plated block somewhat resembling an End Portal Frame, with red on its sides and a scarab gem imprint on it. When the Ancient Clock isn’t on top of it, it just has a hole in the middle, but if the Clock is put on it, then it will float atop the Time Machine.

How To Use

To use the Time Machine, you must first find the Ancient Key by slaying the warlord Anu in his Castle. You must then travel to the The Room and unlock the Ancient Treasure Chest in the hidden room, which will reward you with an Ancient Clock.

You must now put the Ancient Clock in the Time Machine to work it, which will start a timer. When this timer is up, words will pop up on the Time Machine GUI. It will say: «Coming Soon.» The Time-Machine currently cannot be used beyond this.
