Вчера, 15 августа, на сайте Oculus появился релиз официальной поддержки очков виртуальной реальности компании в популярной игре Minecraft, которая на данный момент принадлежит Microsoft. Из всех платформ заявлена поддержка только Windows 10.

За несколько дней до анонса, компания Microsoft совместно с Mojang заявила разработчику мода Minecrift о своих правах и потребовала прекратить поддержку продукта. Об этом создатель модификации, Mabrowning, рассказал пользователям Reddit:

Всем привет. Теперь, когда Microsoft и Mojang (компания-разработчик Minecraft, была куплена Microsoft, прим.) выпустили поддержку VR для MCPE / Win10, они заявляют права на наш неофициальный мод Minecrift. Несколько дней назад я получил уведомление, что мы больше не можем использовать название Minecrift или домен minecraft-vr.com. Я уже остановил работу нашего веб-сайта, но любой, кто захочет получить копию кода, может успеть забрать его с GitHub, пока есть возможность.

Так как Mojang в ближайшее время получит контроль над доменом minecraft-vr.com, я рекомендую всем удалить какие-либо файлы Minecrift на своих машинах, так как сайт может проверить наличие обновлений.

В оправдание технологического гиганта можно сказать, что «захват» домена и указание отказаться от имени Minecrift носит в себе, в первую очередь, проблему брендирования. Компания не могла позволить себе, чтобы настолько созвучные с их продуктом ресурс и проект существовали, так как некоторыми пользователями они могли восприниматься как официальные продукты MS.

В то же время никаких действий против Vivecraft не предпринимается, т.к., во-первых, в нем содержится имя конкурента (HTC Vive), а не Microsoft или Oculus, а во-вторых — официальная поддержка Oculus в Minecraft ограничивается только Win10 и для игроков на других платформах или оригинальной Java-версии проект JrBudda — единственная возможность насладиться любимой игрой при помощи VR-гарнитуры, в том числе, и Oculus.

Play either Bedrock or Java Minecraft in VR on Quest

This article explains how to play Minecraft on your Oculus Quest or Quest 2 virtual reality headset. We include instructions for both Bedrock and Java versions of Minecraft.

Can You Play Minecraft on Oculus Quest or Quest 2?

There is a native version of Minecraft Bedrock edition for the Oculus Rift, but Minecraft isn’t available for Oculus Quest or Quest 2. You can still play Minecraft on your Quest, but only if you have a VR-ready PC and an Oculus Link cable. Your computer runs the Minecraft app and sends visual data to the headset, allowing you to play Minecraft in VR as long as you remain tethered to your PC.

It’s possible to play Bedrock and Java versions of Minecraft on your Quest, but the processes are a bit different. If you don’t own either version yet, you’ll have to purchase one or the other before you can play on your Quest.

How to Play Minecraft Bedrock Edition on Oculus Quest or Quest 2

The Bedrock Edition is easy to get running in VR. All you need is the Minecraft app installed on your computer, the Oculus app on your computer, the Oculus Rift Minecraft app installed on your computer, and a link cable to connect your Oculus to your computer.

Here’s how to play Minecraft Bedrock Edition on your Quest:

Purchase and install Minecraft from the Microsoft Store if you haven’t already done so.

Launch the Oculus app on your computer.

Search for Minecraft, and select it from the results.

Click Free or Install.

This is not the full Minecraft app, it’s just a free app that allows Minecraft Bedrock Edition to run in VR on Oculus hardware.

Put on your Oculus, and connect it to your computer via link cable.

Select Enable to enable Oculus Link.

Locate Minecraft in your apps or search for it, and select Start.

Minecraft will launch in VR.

How to Play Minecraft Java Edition on Oculus Quest or Quest 2

You can also play Minecraft Java Edition in VR on your Quest, but it’s more complicated. It requires a mod called Vivecraft, which enables the Java edition of Minecraft to operate in VR. The VR implementation here is more robust than the Bedrock version, providing you with many movement and interaction options to customize your experience.

To play Minecraft Java Edition on Quest, you need to install Java, install Steam, and install Steam VR. If you don’t already have all three installed, make sure to install them before proceeding.

Here’s how to play Minecraft Java Edition on a Quest:

Purchase and install Minecraft Java Edition if you haven’t already done so.

Navigate to Vivecraft’s download page and click the latest version of Vivecraft.

Click vivecraft-x.xx.x-jrbudda-x-x-installer.exe and download the file.

Launch the file when it finishes downloading, and click Install.

The installation will fail if you haven’t installed Java on your computer.

Click OK.

Launch the Oculus app on your computer.

Put on your Quest headset, and connect it to your computer with a link cable.

Select Enable.

On your computer, locate Steam VR in your Steam library and click Launch.

In the Steam VR interface in your headset, select the monitor icon.

If you have multiple monitors, select the one Minecraft will run on.

If you select the wrong monitor, Minecraft will not appear on your virtual desktop after the next step. In that case, you can either repeat this step to choose the correct monitor or take your headset off and move the Minecraft window to your other monitor.

Using the virtual desktop, launch the Java version of Minecraft.

Select Vivecraft from the Minecraft version selection menu.

Select Play.

Check the box, and select Play.

Minecraft will launch in VR on your headset.

Vivecraft is available for several Minecraft versions. All versions contain Optifine which adds shaders support, dynamic lights, and other graphical improvements. All versions can be played online. Not all versions support the same VR features or support Forge mods.

There are 4 downloads available for each version.
– The VR Client is the main mod for VR players.
– The NonVR (2D) Client is for desktop players who wish to see VR animations or LAN-host.
– The Spigot plugin is to enable animations on a Spigot server.
– the Forge server mod is to enable animations on a Forge server.

Installing Vivecraft

Installation is easy. Follow these instructions to install the Vivecraft client. Installation is the same the first time you install and for updates. You can install Vivecraft multiple times with different options with no issue.
